The Ghosts Of The Sanatorium
a film by Frederic Goldbronn 60'On the morning of 18 March 1942, after a long train journey through occupied France, the young Roland Barthes arrived at the student sanatorium at Saint Hilaire in the Alps.
He soon discovered this strange "World above", where the anguish of death and the constraints of treatment were combined with the promise of rebirth. To a friend who had stayed far away, he recounts an experience that is both social and intimate, one that shakes him to the core and resonates powerfully with our own times.
